On the morning of November 9, 2022, Laser Base held a meeting on the management of international graduate students of the class of 2022. Director Xue Wei, Deputy Director Cao Yu and 12 international graduate student instructors attended the meeting to summarize and communicate the work related to international graduate students that has been carried out so far and the focus of the next step.
Firstly, Deputy Director Cao Yu reported on the mutual selection of international graduate student supervisors and the teaching and learning situation, focusing on the base graduate student training program, the university regulations on international graduate student education and management, and the funding methods for international graduate student training and management.
In the subsequent exchange session, the international graduate student supervisors discussed the current problems encountered by their students and the ideas of subsequent guidance, and they learned from each other's experiences and suggested that activities such as academic competitions could be carried out to motivate international graduate students to study and research.
Finally, Director Xue Wei put forward three requirements on the management of international graduate students. He emphasized that, firstly, we should pay great attention to the fact that foreign affairs are no trivial matter, we should fully recognize the differences between international students and domestic students, clarify their positioning, explore the teaching and research methods that emphasize both principle and flexibility, and strive to cultivate excellent international graduate students. Secondly, we should improve the mechanism and system first, and further improve the assessment mechanism and the management methods of international students. Thirdly, we should strengthen the management, introduce the regular management mechanism, hold the international graduate student supervisors' exchange meeting regularly, and pool our wisdom and make concerted efforts to do an excellent job in international graduate student cultivation.
