Research Fields

(1) the basic theory and new technology of preparing special functional micro-texture on the surface of parts with complex profile based on ultrafast laser micro-nano machining; (2) Laser machining process planning software and control system; (3) High-power laser processing application technologies and complete sets of equipment such as laser cutting, welding, cladding, 3D printing and cleaning.

General information

Cao Yu, male, was born in June 1980 in Changsha, Hunan Province. Doctor of engineering, professor, head of SMART LASERS research team, master tutor.

main professional experiences

In July 2003, he graduated from Harbin Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in engineering. In July 2006, he graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology with a master's degree in physics and electronics. In June 2009, he graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, majoring in physics and electronics, with a doctorate in engineering. From July 2009 to June 2011, he worked in the optical engineering postdoctoral mobile station of Wuhan Optoelectronic National Laboratory. Since June 2011, he has been transferred to the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Wenzhou University, during which he worked as a visiting scholar at the National University of Singapore (full-time) from March 2015 to October 2015, and took a post at the Investment Promotion Bureau of Zhejiang South Science and Technology City in Wenzhou from September 2017 to September 2018 (full-time).

Honors and Awards

He won one gold medal in "Invention and Entrepreneurship Award" of China Invention Association, ten outstanding patent inventors in Wenzhou and other awards, and participated in three first and second prizes of provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological progress.

Undertake projects

As the project leader, he has undertaken more than 10 vertical scientific research projects, such as general projects of NSFC/Youth Fund, Jieqing Project/Key Project of NSFC of Zhejiang Province, and several horizontal projects entrusted by enterprises.

Deputy Chief Engineer of Pentium Laser (Wenzhou) Co., Ltd., Director of Strategic Development Center, Special Commissioner of Science and Technology Support of Wenzhou Science and Technology Bureau (Jiangnan Valve Co., Ltd.), Distinguished Expert and Head of Innovation Team of Laser and Optoelectronic Intelligent Manufacturing Research Institute of Wenzhou University, Secretary General of Academic Committee of Peking University-Wenzhou Laser and Optoelectronic Joint R&D Center, Letter Evaluation Expert of National Natural Science Foundation of China and Israel National Science and Technology Project, Invited Reviewer of more than 10 academic journals such as Optics Express and Langmuir.

Academic achievements

He published more than 30 academic papers in SCI and EI as the first or correspondent author, participated in the compilation of one international English academic monograph, and took the lead in drafting and formulating one group standard of "Made in Zhejiang" (T/ZZB 0732-2018 "Laser Welding Machine for Water Pump Impeller").
